Modernizing Medicine, Inc., is a software company headquartered at the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. The company has two co-founders: Daniel Cane, CEO and co-founder of Blackboard, Inc., and Dr. Michael Sherling, Chief Medical Officer and a practicing dermatologist.
The company makes electronic health records, practice management and revenue cycle management for doctors, and currently has software for dermatologists, ophthalmologists, orthopedic surgeons, gastroenterologists, plastic surgeons, ENTs (or otolaryngologists), urologists, rheumatologists and pain management physicians. Modernizing Medicine has a business model that employs practicing doctors to write the software for each specialty.
The company has raised $318 million in funding, most recently with $231 million from private equity group Warburg Pincus. Modernizing Medicine acquired gMed, a company serving gastroenterologists, in 2015. In October 2016, Modernizing Medicine hired its 500th employee. In addition to its Boca Raton, Florida, headquarters, the company also has offices in Weston, Florida, Roseville, California and Santiago, Chile.
